If you find that working from home means you are slumped over your laptop for endless hours, you need to stop, revaluate and make it work for you!
Tip #1 – Keep walking!
I spent years not leaving the house on the days I worked from home, barely even leaving my desk. Its not good for your health and it is not productive! I now take a walk every morning along the beach and start my ‘work day’.
It gives you time to think about your work day and what you need to focus on. Try it for a week and see how much better and more focused you feel!
Tip #2 – Keep a list to stay on track
Whether it is on Evernote, Onenote or with pen and paper, it will keep you organised and motivated. Write it with as much detail as you need. Example: 8.30: Check emails 9.00: start project plan for client X etc ..
Even just the process of writing or typing out the list will help you focus and remember the tasks you need to complete.
Tip #3 – You can still be social!
Don’t be hard on yourself and think that because you are at home you can’t go out. If you where at work and was asked to lunch you would go, so why not at home? It maybe that you want to do some chores or go to the gym or call your friend. Its ok, you can do that!
Tip #4 – Set up an office
Even if it cannot be in a separate room, try to set up a space that will inspire you and that you enjoy sitting at. Sitting on the sofa with a laptop day after day is not good for your health or wellbeing!
Also need to consider your chair and screen position so you do not damage your posture.
Tip #5 – Work it to your advantage!
Working from home is meant to be flexible! Work it so that it is, otherwise there is no point is there?
